Cut-and-sew knits : Become a pattern drafter

E-Book

Making patterns and 17 explained models, finishing and constructions for your t-shirts, sweaters, skirts, jackets, and trousers in knit fabrics.

This book explores all the possibilities in patternmaking for cut-and-sew knits and, through a selection of models, helps you make a full collection or complete your wardrobe with basic pieces adapted to women's ready-to-wear. ""cut-and-sew"" knits, long used only for undergarments, have a definite place today in our closets and are found throughout the wardrobe. Buying knit fabrics by the meter and sewing them on an overlock-shaving machine can be easy but, though knits are comfortable to wear, their stretch qualities require special skills to make the patterns and sew the garments. This book is used as an educational support for third year ESMOD Paris students.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After graduating from ESMOD in 1988, Sandrine Delhumeau had her first work experience in Athens, Greece, in a company that specialized in cut-and-sew knits. Her next ready-to-wear experiences included working on women’s and children’s clothing in denims and other woven fabrics as well as working with cut-and-sew knits. After 13 years of experience as an employee, she decided to open her own style office to develop and interpret collections in different designer universes and, especially, to work for herself. At about the same time, in 2004, she returned to ESMOD to teach patternmaking. Since 2010, she have taught the Women’s ready-to-wear, Knit option Patternmaking class in partnership with Christian Tournafol who specializes in knits and sustainable development. Today she's thrilled to share her experience in this book that, she hope, will transmit her passion for this wonderful skill of patternmaking that truly plays the role of a fashion interpreter.
