The Plumed Serpent

After years of drifting through postwar Europe, Irish widow Kate Leslie travels to Mexico and finds herself drawn into a movement to revive the ancient gods of the Aztecs. Led by the charismatic Ramón and the soldier Cipriano, the movement seeks not only spiritual renewal but political transformation, aiming to forge a new national identity rooted in mythic tradition. As Kate becomes entangled in their vision, she is forced to confront the limits of her own beliefs and her uneasy place between old worlds and new.

The Plumed Serpent [1926] was written during Lawrence’s travels in Mexico and the American Southwest, and reflects his deep fascination with myth, ritual, and the possibilities of societal regeneration. Although divisive at the time of its release, it remains a significant and challenging part of Lawrence’s later body of work.

D. H. LAWRENCE [1885-1930] was one of the greatest English writers of the 20th century. Lawrence's depictions of erotica and sexuality led to several of his novels being banned and censored. He lived in self-imposed exile for four years due to the reception of his novels.
