Düsseldorf, 1930: a killer is at large whom the press calls the "Vampire of Düsseldorf", and despite every effort the police cannot catch him. Detective Superintendent Ernst Gennat of Berlin asks Sherlock Holmes for help, and Holmes and Watson cross the Channel to a city that behaves strikingly normally while fear spreads behind its doors. Instead of hunting a monster, they look for a human being who lives unnoticed among everyone else – until a young woman's letter gives them a path and a house.
