Complete and unabridged, with 56 full-page plates by John Frederick Kensett, George Inness and Edward Lamson Henry. Three comic books in one: a rebellious heroine who refuses the plot she has been given, a Christmas book, and the club-land nonsense Bangs made his own. He invented the genre of stories set aboard a houseboat on the river Styx, where the famous dead argue. This edition adds 56 plates of paintings from 1850 to 1917, among them works by Charles Dana Gibson, Edward Lamson Henry and Félix Parra.
