»Spökhuset« är titelnovellen i Virginia Woolfs postuma novellsamling A Haunted House [1944]. Två spöken hemsöker sitt gamla hus, där bokens berättare nu lever med sin man. Klassiska Woolf-teman som kärlek, äktenskap, döden och kommunikationen människor emellan möter gotisk fantasy, när Woolf låter sin unika variant av medvetandeström komma till uttryck genom tingen: förutom att inrymma själar, levande och döda, har huset i berättelsen en egen själ. .

VIRGINIA WOOLF [1882–1941] var en engelsk författare och feminist. Med romaner som Mrs Dalloway [1925], Mot fyren [1927] och Orlando [1928] blev hon en av modernismens centrala gestalter. Som essäist påverkade hon kvinnorörelsen i stora delar av världen med Ett eget rum [1928]. Woolfs stil var experimentell och oupphörligen föränderlig, varför såväl hennes dagböcker som brev har kommit att räknas som viktiga i hennes verk. Så även ett antal noveller som många av dem uppmärksammats först på senare år.
