Martin Somers, surgeon and adjutant of women in O’Cahan’s Irish regiment fighting for Montrose, is a better swordsman than surgeon. In his adventurous wardship of this ill-fated company of women, Martin finds excitement and danger in war-torn Scotland from his first encounter with the enemy—the grim-faced Covenanters with their terrible rallying cry ‘Jesus and no quarter!’
Here is a tale of keen endeavour set against the vivid background of the battle-scarred Highlands in the seventeenth century. Martin faces great peril and pursues romance at a furious pace which keeps the reader enthralled to the last page.
