''Linda Craig and the Clue on the Desert Trail'' in the classic vintage Linda Craig mystery series combines traditional juvenile detective sleuthing with a Western, horse-centric setting.
The story begins when sixteen-year-old Linda Craig buys a small, yellow clay horse statue because it reminds her of her beloved prize palomino filly, Chica d'Oro. She quickly discovers she isn't the only one interested in the artifact.
After receiving an ominous arrowhead-signed note warning her to "Beware. Stay away from C. Sello," a series of dangerous events unfold. Intruders smash alternative statues in a local shop, Linda's friend is mistakenly kidnapped, and villains even attempt to poison Chica. Following a trail of clues that leads to the historic Mojave Trail, Linda and her horse track down a sinister band of smugglers operating out of a desert ghost town and ancient cliff dwellings.
