Complete and unabridged, with 56 full-page plates by William Hogarth, Thomas Rowlandson and Thomas Gainsborough. Manchester in 1745, the townsmen who came out for the Young Pretender, and the heads that stayed on the Exchange afterwards. Ainsworth was a Manchester man and wrote his own city's part in the rising from the trial records. This edition adds fifty-six plates after Reynolds, Zoffany, Wright of Derby and others, and three illustrations restored and coloured for the text.
