Rolland writes as a disciple but not a blind one, and the account of the last flight from Yasnaya Polyana is very fine. This edition adds Bernard Miall's translation and a gallery of 60 plates, among them paintings by Ivan Kramskoi, Vasily Perov, Ivan Shishkin and Alexei Savrasov.
