Complete and unabridged, with 57 full-page plates by Odilon Redon, Johan Christian Dahl and Francisco Goya. Ghost stories by a novelist who had spent his life in Italy - the upper berth in a cabin where three men have drowned themselves, the doll's face, the screaming skull. The Upper Berth is among the half-dozen best ghost stories in English. This edition adds 57 plates of painting bound with the book, among them Arnold Böcklin, Caspar David Friedrich and Théodore Gudin, plus one restored and coloured in-text illustration.
