Über dieses Buch

Homer’s The Odyssey is one of the greatest adventure stories ever told—a timeless epic of courage, temptation, endurance, loyalty, and the irresistible longing for home.

After ten years of war at Troy, the Greek hero Odysseus begins his journey home to Ithaca, where his faithful wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus, await his return. What should be a brief voyage becomes a ten-year struggle across a world ruled by unpredictable gods, terrifying monsters, seductive enchantresses, and the dangerous forces of the sea. Odysseus must escape the one-eyed Cyclops Polyphemus, resist the enchantments of Circe, descend into the kingdom of the dead, and hear the deadly song of the Sirens. He faces the monstrous Scylla and the devouring whirlpool Charybdis, suffers the anger of Poseidon, and remains imprisoned for years upon the island of the beautiful goddess Calypso. Meanwhile, Ithaca has fallen into disorder. Arrogant suitors occupy Odysseus’s palace, consume his wealth, and pressure Penelope to choose a new husband. Telemachus, no longer a child, sets out to discover the truth about his missing father. Penelope uses patience and intelligence to delay the men surrounding her, but time is running out.

When Odysseus finally reaches home, he must return in disguise, test the loyalty of those he once trusted, and prepare for a final confrontation that will determine the fate of his family and kingdom.
