Thea von Harbou wrote the novel and the screenplay together with Fritz Lang, her husband, and the film they made from it is the one everybody has seen. This edition adds 59 plates of painting, among them Piranesi's Prisons and works by Marianne North and Horatio Walker, dating from 1745 to 1925.
