Über dieses Buch

Kayin arrives on Earth with nothing left but time and knowledge. Hiding in plain sight, he learns the language, the labor, and the small daily rituals of people who never notice how close they stand to disaster. Each day he blends in more easily, and each day the project rising around him moves closer to a point he recognizes all too well.

The danger is not obvious. It wears the face of progress, investment, and scientific confidence. Kayin has seen this pattern before, on worlds that no longer exist. What frightens him is not ignorance, but certainty—the belief that control has already been achieved. As he grows closer to the people who trust him as one of their own, he is forced to confront a choice with no safe outcome: intervene and expose himself, or remain silent and watch a catastrophe unfold.

Task of Kayin is a tense, grounded science fiction story about an outsider who understands the cost of action better than anyone else in the room. The longer Kayin stays, the more human his loyalties become, and the more dangerous the truth he carries. When time finally runs out, he must act with only his wits, his experience, and a shrinking margin for error.

William Morrison built a reputation for stories that place extraordinary intelligence inside ordinary environments. His work appeared in magazines such as Astounding Science Fiction and Thrilling Wonder Stories, where he explored moments when advanced knowledge collides with human institutions unprepared to receive it. In Task of Kayin, Morrison delivers one of his most quietly suspenseful narratives, balancing alien perspective with sharply observed human behavior.
