Ghost stories out of British India - the rickshaw that follows a man who jilted its owner, the dak-bungalow where the dead play billiards at night, the sand-pit from which no one climbs out - with The Man Who Would Be King beside them. Kipling wrote most of these in his early twenties as a newspaperman in India, and the heat and the boredom in them are first-hand.
