Twelve of Lang's coloured fairy books were published and the Pink is the fifth: Danish, Sicilian, Japanese and Catalan tales, among them the Snow-Queen, the flying trunk, the water of life and the house in the wood. Lang chose stories that had not been anthologised to death, which is why this volume has the strangest company. He believed the tales were older than any nation and said so in prefaces his critics disliked. Its 63 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
