Ghost stories written by a novelist who had studied philosophy and psychoanalysis, in which the dead return because something is unfinished rather than because they are angry. Sinclair coined the phrase stream of consciousness for literary use, and these stories are haunted from the inside. This edition adds twenty plates of painting by Sickert, Fuseli, Redon and Munch, with forty illustrations restored and coloured for the text.
