Just as many people go into psychiatry not because they do understand people, but because they don't, so many people go into philosophy not because they are philosophers, but because they are intellectual cripples. For that reason, they cannot even engage in a semblance of thought without following the formal procedures of which instruction in philosophy apprises one.
