Death Comes to Dartmoor - The Devon Mysteries - The riveting cosy crime series, Book 6 (Unabridged)

Hörbuch

When Juno Browne returns to the picturesque Dartmoor town of Ashburton after a brief holiday, she's relieved to find that no one has been murdered while she was away. Though uncharitable friends suggest the quiet was simply due to her absence. Just as she's settling back into her routine at the antiques shop and as domestic helper and dog walker, the brutal killing of local journalist Sandy Thomas shocks the town.

When it becomes clear that one of Juno's friends has managed to catch the killing on camera, Juno is swept up into a fresh murder inquiry. What was Sandy really investigating on the night she was killed? With a spate of dog kidnappings to contend with as well, the Devon countryside never felt less tranquil, and inevitably means Juno's amateur sleuthing skills will be called upon once again ...

The plot was as good, if not better, than the previous ones. I like the developments in the characters' personalities, the descriptions of everyday life in small communities, the countryside descriptions and the diverse problems and misdeeds Juno B. has to cope with. However, compared to brilliant narrator Nicola Burgess, I had difficulties listening to Ms. Bond and had almost put the story away. In my opinion, Ms. Bond's voice isn't really suited to Juno Browne, her voice sounds rather too old to impersonate a woman in her thirties, moreover it was often too high and shrill for my taste. Thus only a rating of 4 stars..., hoping further books will again be read by Ms. Burgess.
