New managers face the challenge of familiarizing themselves rapidly with the tasks ahead of them. In order to make starting the new job easier for young managers in particular, the authors provide an overview of the tasks that exist in emergency organizations, the requirements and society=s expectations. Management tools enabling these requirements to be adequately met are presented and potential problem areas are addressed.
