With their powers renewed in the underworld, the Bone Mages are returning to T'iru Midiri to free their people from the invaders. They must battle Queen Diarmuid of the Dragon Builders, conqueror of their cities and her allies the Iron Boatmen of Mun.
As they undertake their journey, Zhe's powers grow towards becoming a mighty Threefold Bone Mage. But to achieve this great power, he must fulfil a set of mysterious tasks including liberating at least one key city and defeating Queen Diarmuid.
But first the mages must win an alliance with the sly King Najashi, who has their families hostage and held them in exile for sixteen years.
