Complete and unabridged, with 33 full-page plates by Edvard Munch, Wilhelm Camphausen and Ivan Shishkin. Three sketches written in the batteries at Sevastopol by an artillery officer who was there through the siege - the town in December, in May, and in August when it fell. Tolstoy was twenty-six; the Tsar ordered the first sketch translated into French, and no war had been described this way before. This edition adds a gallery of 33 plates after painters including Munch, Christian Sell and Anton von Werner, alongside eight illustrations restored and coloured, in Isabel Florence Hapgood's translation.
