There is a curse. A curse which turns men into werewolves.Vin's father was an occultist and wanted to be immortal but he ended up cursing his bloodline. When Vin marries and has a son, the latter too carries the family curse. Unbeknown to his poor wife, Vin switches his son at birth with a normal human.
