Fridtjof Nansen (1861–1930) oli norjalainen naparetkeilijä, diplomaatti ja tutkija. Hän ylitti ensimmäisenä ihmisenä Grönlannin vuonna 1888 ja yritti Pohjoisnavalle vuosina 1893–1896. Hän innostui yrittämään Grönlannin ylitystä vuonna 1883, kuultuaan suomalaisen Nordenskiöldin löytöretkestä samana vuonna. Ylitys hiihtämällä kesti 41 päivää, päättyen Godhamin vuonon lähelle länsirannikolla. Nansenin muistelmat kertoo tästä matkasta.Nansen toimi myös Kansainliiton pakolaisasiain päävaltuutettuna ja sai Nobelin rauhanpalkinnon vuonna 1922.Osa II
