The Master Mind Of Mars

The Master Mind of Mars is the sixth installment in the Martian series . It was published as a novel by A. C. McClurg in March, 1928, after being serialized in the magazine Amazing Stories Annual in 1927. Ulysses Paxton, the first Earthman to follow the trail to Mars blazed by John Carter, becomes an apprentice of the brilliant, arrogant, and utterly amoral Ras Thavas, dealer of youth and beauty to the elites of Mars—until Paxton, driven by disgust with his master, rebels to seek the woman he loves. Besides the usual swashbuckling adventure typical of the Mars books, Burroughs continues exploring the themes of mind and body introduced in The Chessmen of Mars . He also satirizes religious fundamentalism, which reputedly made it more difficult to find a publisher for this book. Edgar Rice Burroughs (died 1950) was an influential writer of the modernist period. Their work has endured across generations and continues to be read and studied worldwide. Fantastical literature has always allowed writers to explore human truths through the lens of the impossible and the magical. The Master Mind Of Mars draws on mythology, folklore, and pure invention to construct a world that illuminates our own.
