Danger brought them together; his secret could be their undoing.
When Lady Josephine Tweedale escapes an abduction and flees into the woods, she finds refuge in a small gamekeeper’s cottage, completely unaware that the man tending the fire is actually Jude Dexter, Earl of Pendryn. Desiring to simply keep her safe for the night, Jude allows her mistake to stand. If she knew the truth, Society would force them into a marriage that neither of them wanted.
But the shared danger and the quiet hours spent together in the cottage pull them closer than either expects. Josephine begins to trust the gentle, steadfast man she believes him to be, and Jude discovers a purpose far stronger than escaping his burdens: protecting her.
When the truth finally emerges, Josephine’s humiliation cuts deep. Yet Jude refuses to lose her. He is willing to risk duty, reputation, and scandal itself—not for obligation, but for the chance to offer her his heart.
