Loving A Vampire Is Total Chaos

A riotously funny, sinfully romantic, and decadently deadly paranormal rom-com about a Chicago detective investigating a series of murders, but when the trail leads to a three-hundred-year-old vampire, this unlikely pair finds themselves drawn even deeper into the mystery, and even closer to each other. Perfect for fans of Assistant to the Villain and True Blood!

Celine Brennan should be riding the high of her recent promotion to detective, but instead she’s been saddled with a case no one can seem to solve with murders so gruesome others before her have quit. Not to mention, there’s something suspicious with a new club in town and her focus keeps being pulled from the case she should be devoting her attention to.

Zavier Lockwood is old. Three-hundred years old to be precise and he’s bored because of it. Killing the scum of Chicago and cleaning up the streets since the cops can’t seem to do it is his favorite pastime. Until he lays eyes on Celine. Soon, he finds his obsession with her far more tempting than murder. After all, no vampire can resist the allure of their mate.

As their paths cross thanks to Zavier’s uncanny ability to be wherever Celine is they both come to realize there’s something far more nefarious going on in the city they both love. They’ll have to work together to get to the bottom of it, but what happens when Celine realizes the man she’s falling for isn’t only not human, but he’s the same one committing the crimes she’s supposed to solve?

PUT A ZAVIER IN YOUR LIFE… ASAP! Loving a Vampire is Total Chaos is exactly what the title promises: chaotic AF: but the kind of chaos that’s crazy, thoughtful, loving, funny, and kinky… because that’s the essence of Zavier Lockwood, our vampire MMC. A man who will commit the most gruesome murd3rs (but only k*ll bad people) and leave a smiley face as his signature. The same man who will break into your house… just to do laundry, clean, and hang out with his emotional support p*ssy, whom he considers his best friend — aka Midnight the cat. On the other hand, we have our strong, loyal, and dedicated FMC, Celine Brennan, a newly promoted detective assigned to the Mayhem Murderer case (yes, the one Zavier is responsible for). She’s the kind of woman you want in your corner because she will be your ride-or-die and avenge you if necessary... which may or may not get her into trouble. Even though she’s a bit of a grump, when it comes to Zavier she can’t help but be curious about him. They’re complete opposites when it comes to personality and boundaries: she’s a responsible, grounded adult woman, and Zav is an unhinged 300-year-old vampire with golden-retriever energy. The story takes you through the murder investigation, an emerging unknown threat that intertwines with the MCs in ways you won’t see coming, all while being witness to the development of the mate bond between Celine and Zav. Aura Hayes does a fantastic job of keeping you on the edge of your seat while Celine and Zav unravel the mysteries. At the same time, she makes you blush with the spicy scenes (you may or may not be dog-earing certain pages for future rereads) and laugh so hard your face hurts thanks to Zav’s unfiltered hilarity. Even though the plot centers on Zavier and Celine, we also get to know several secondary characters who will be key players in the next two books (and if you follow Aura Hayes’ IG, you know exactly who I mean 🙂). AUDIOBOOK Doing immersive reading completely elevated my experience — especially with duet narration. Teddy Hamilton and Casey Holloway are the perfect Zavier and Celine! Teddy captures Zavier’s sunny-but-feral personality flawlessly, giving him the edge he deserves — not only in his more vampiric moments, but also in his funny and seductive side. (Teddy meowing as Midnight is genuinely one of the funniest things ever.) Casey perfectly embodies Celine’s duality, giving her voice the authority it needs during detective work and high-risk situations, while also bringing out her softer, more vulnerable side in scenes with Zavier and her friends.
