Gesela's village is cursed with having curses, constantly; and each curse has a villager that will break it. Gesela's turn comes up when the village's well is dried up, and she is tasked to kill the toad living at the bottom of it. She doesn't plan to kill it, she knows consequences will ensue if she does. However, in a twist of fate, she indeed kills the toad, and soon, consequences come for her. The toad she killed was one of seven Elven princes; and his brothers punish Gesela by sending her to their cursed brother. This beast of a prince offers her a deal to escape from her punishment: she must speak his true name in the following seven days. This had vibes of ACOTAR (the first book). And though it definitely is smuttier that that first book, this one did not make sense nor did I enjoy it. The main issue is that this was insta-lusty; which I wouldn't have minded much if the relationship developed in an organic way and convinced me that this couple had to be together. Suffice to say, this couple makes no sense; I don't get how she fell in love with him. I was more intrigued by the riddle to his name that the relationship. As there are five remaining Elven princes, I assume this will be a series and I'm not interested in continuing. Too bad, I really enjoyed Scarlett St. Clair's other series, the Hades & Persephone retelling. This was disappointing.
