There are two sides to any given emotion: an outward-facing side and an inward-facing side. The emotion is partly about some externality. But the emotion also reflects your beliefs as to how, if at all, you can deal with the situation in question, should it materialize, and also with your degree of willingness to make the necessary adaptations.
