At twilight in a quiet New York park, a young man approaches an elegant woman sitting alone with a book. She reluctantly allows him to join her, then confesses that she belongs to the highest level of society—a world of wealth, jewels, parties, and titled suitors that has left her longing for something genuine.

The young man seems to offer exactly what she seeks. Modestly dressed and apparently untouched by privilege, he claims to earn his living as a restaurant cashier. Their conversation turns to wealth, social expectations, and whether two people from entirely different worlds could ever truly understand one another.

But as evening falls and the woman prepares to return to the automobile she says is waiting for her, carefully maintained appearances begin to unravel.
