Harrow the Ninth, the sequel to the sensational, USA Today bestselling novel Gideon the Ninth, turns a
galaxy inside out as one necromancer struggles to survive the wreckage of herself aboard the Emperor’s haunted
space station.
Harrowhark Nonagesimus, last necromancer of the Ninth House, has been drafted by her Emperor to fight an
unwinnable war. Side by side with a detested rival, Harrow must perfect her skills and become an angel of undeath—
but her health is failing, her sword makes her nauseous, and even her mind is threatening to betray her.
Sealed in the gothic gloom of the Emperor’s Mithraeum with three unfriendly teachers, hunted by the mad ghost
of a murdered planet, Harrow must confront two unwelcome questions: Is somebody trying to kill her? And if they
succeeded, would the universe be better off?

One of the best books I’ve ever read! I also listened to the audiobook version and I’d say it was even better if possible. Brilliant!

I would give it six stars if I could. At first I was thoroughly confused almost to the point of giving up, but I took the audiobook (read by the AMAZING Moira Quirk) to my walks and ended up reading and listening to this book in tandem (which I really want to emphasise is a really fantastic experience and would definitely recommend, will definitely do the same with the sequels). And once I got over the the bizarre second person narrative and the thoroughly baffling flashbacks, it swept me off my feet and I became obsessed. It's mysterious, engaging and funny af and then so so touching, tying up ends with Gideon the Ninth in the most heartbreaking ways. I adore everything about it. The world building is superb, it feels large and old and lived in and I was so thirsty for more and more. The Emperor of the Nine Houses, the King Undying, the Prince of Death, the Necrolord Prime (view spoiler) and his ancient lyctors are fascinating, not so much by the scraps of information you're given but the lack of. (view spoiler) And of course the humour, which just keeps on coming leaving you completely breathless. This book stays with you. I cannot wait for more.
