Averroes was a strong proponent of Aristotle and a critic of the Neoplatonism movement. Unlike other Muslim thinkers, he argued that philosophy was permissible in Islam and obligatory for some elite circles. He also argued that some writings should be read metaphorically if their assertations contradict the philosophy. This book contains his discourse on the delineations and relations between theology and religion and his considerations on the doctrines of the faith. Averroes pays much attention to the question of improper interpretations of religious and philosophical thought. In this work, he discusses how to deal with doubt and misleading innovations that penetrate philosophical and religious teachings.
