A young Englishwoman married to a Prussian count retreats to a neglected garden on the Baltic and writes down what she plants and what she thinks of her husband, whom she calls the Man of Wrath. It went through twenty printings in its first year, published anonymously, and everyone in Berlin tried to work out who she was.
