Kirja kertoo Lapin asukkaiden rohkeista esiintymismatkoista 1800-luvun lopulla ja 1900-luvun alkupuolella Saksaan, aikana jolloin matkat Lapista Etelä-Suomeen ja jopa Saksaan oli harvojen "herkkua". Matkat kestivät jopa yli kahdeksan kuukautta ja mukana oli reet, porot, koirat ja jopa lapset. Saksassa mentiin naimisiin, synnytettiin ja kuoltiin. Viimeinen esiintyminen Saksassa oli 1952.
