Lo que sabía Maisie

El tema central de "Maisie" gira en torno a las relaciones que se establecen entre conocimiento y moralidad, entre epistemología y ética. La sustancia esencial de "Maisie" es el choque, el contraste irónico entre la inocencia de una niña que tiene seis años cuando se verifica el divorcio de sus padres y la sordidez de las relaciones que la rodean. El ambiente en que vive Maisie no es sino el reflejo de la inmoralidad e hipocresía que Henry James observa en las clases acomodadas de la ciudad de Londres. El impulso original que anima a "Maisie" es netamente satírico, y no es difícil ver las afinidades que esta obra guarda con otras grandes críticas previas y posteriores de la sociedad londinense.
