Villette

Villette was Charlotte Bronte's fourth novel and while not as well-known as Jane Eyre, it draws on Charlotte's experiences as a teacher at a boarding school in Brussels where she taught English. The name Villette refers to the fictional French town to which the main protagonist of the novel, Lucy Snowe, travels to take up a post at a girls' school. While there, Lucy finds love with an English doctor, but the conniving of others and events force them apart.
