Les diasporas indiennes anciennes, issues de l’immigration des ouvriers agricoles sous contrat (indentured labourers) pendant la colonisation européenne, font l’objet de nombreuses études d’ordre historique, économique, anthropologique, social, et politique. Alors que le rôle et la place des langues d’origine au sein de ces diasporas indiennes ont suscité un intérêt moindre. Or, des études récentes montrent que la transmission et le maintien de la langue d’origine, parmi tous les éléments identitaires, sont des processus très complexes. Cette Conférence avait donc pour objectif de faire un état des lieux et d’offrir un espace d’échanges et de réflexion autour de ces langues.
The Indian old diasporic communities, who migrated during the european colonial period as indentured workers, have been the subject of many discussions and studies with emphasis on the historical, economical, anthropological, social and political dimensions of migration. However, the presence of Indian languages and their role within these diaspora populations have so far received limited attention. recent studies have made clear that among all the elements of identity (re)construction, retention and transmission of the language of origin is the most problematic. this Conference was organized in order to provide a forum for discussion and interaction in connection with these languages.
