The Norwegian folk tales as Asbjornsen and Moe took them down - the three billy goats, the lad who went to the north wind, the girl who rode the white bear east of the sun. They collected in the 1840s as the Grimms had in Germany, and their versions became the standard Norwegian text. This edition binds sixty plates of painting with the tales, among them works by Adolph Tidemand, Erik Werenskiold and Carl Frederik Bartsch, dating from 1790 to 1913.
