Nathanael West [1903–1940] var en amerikansk författare och dramatiker. Gräshopporna är en roman från 1939 och betraktas som Nathanael Wests främsta verk och hör i dag till den amerikanska litteraturens moderna klassiker. Många kritiker anser att den vid sidan av F. Scott Fitzgeralds oavslutade Den siste magnaten (1941) hör till de bästa romaner som skrivits om Hollywood.
