Sheriff Gasteen stood in the crowd and drove his angry words at Dan Bellow. 'I told you when you killed Tom Addis, I'd not forget it.' Dan had shot Addis when the latter tried to ambush ex-sheriff, Jubilee Hawk. Gasteen, a tool of Neel St. cloud, was accustomed to getting what he wanted. He also had his eye on Nan Avery, but she had a mind of her own and a fighting spirit. When St. Cloud's wild bunch rode in for the kill, Nan joined Dan and his friends as they defended their ranches in a gun-roaring showdown.
