On an icy January day in 1937, death arrives in Halden with a stowaway aboard a ship from Rotterdam. Among those at risk is the self-effacing and timid Vinnie Dahlen. Rikard Brink of the Ice People, a policeman, is tasked with preventing the catastrophe. But to succeed, he must first earn the trust of the hesitant and fearful Vinnie.
