Love and Other Theories is a fast-paced twist on the coming-of-age novel and the romantic comedy that Kirkus Reviews called ""careful, subtle, and aching"" in a starred review.
Aubrey and her best friends made a pact to play by the guys' rules when it comes to dating. They're hoping the rules will keep them from experiencing high school heartbreak—they don't realize that these rules could just as easily keep them from opening their hearts and minds.
And when new boy Nathan Diggs moves to town, Aubrey starts to think that some rules are meant to be broken.
With equal parts bite and romance, topped off with an irresistibly engaging voice, Alexis Bass's novel is one you won't want to miss.

This novel had the potential to be great with its well-written, in-depth characters. The plot centers around high school girls adopting "the cool girl" concept to attract boys, deliberately avoiding labels to not end up hurt and abandoned. However, this results in a lack of meaningful communication within the main character's (MC) friendship group. Conversations remain surface-level to avoid deep attachments, leading to an absence of real discussions that could have enriched the story. By the third act, when their approach inevitably backfires, I anticipated a significant reveal or confrontation, but it never came. Moreover, while the MC's internal dialogue and message are well-developed, leaving no unanswered questions about her, the narrative misses crucial opportunities for big moments among characters. Such moments could have provided deeper insights into their thoughts and addressed the audience's lingering questions, adding layers to the narrative. Consequently, the story feels unfulfilling, akin to being kept waiting for a meal at a new restaurant by subsisting on bread rolls, only to be informed five hours later that the restaurant is closing. Despite its promise, the lack of depth and missed opportunities lead me to a generous 3-star rating..
