Miss Marple is met vakantie in West-Indië. In haar hotel ontmoet ze majoor Palgrave, een man die veel praat, te veel zelfs. Als de majoor plotseling komt te overlijden, vindt Miss Marple al spoedig het bewijs dat de majoor vermoord is. Ze besluit de hotelgasten eens voorzichtig te gaan uithoren, want ze is ervan overtuigd dat één van hen iets te verbergen heeft.
