Franz Kafka (1883–1924) was een Duitstalige schrijver die wordt gezien als een van de belangrijkste auteurs van de twintigste eeuw. Zijn werk kreeg vooral na zijn dood een grote invloed op de westerse literatuur. Kafka is vooral bekend als schrijver van de romans Het Proces en Het Slot alsmede de novelle De Gedaanteverwisseling.
