Arrow has just arrived in the capital city,
Cubisandria, where she will begin her training
to become a leather wing rider. Or so she thinks.
Sadly, her new title of fire warrior doesn’t
afford her as much respect as she’d hoped, and
she finds herself resigned to having to muck out
in the leather wing stables, strictly supervised by
the ill-tempered equerry, Fluvil, whose horrible
tantrums never fail to test her self-restraint.
Nobody believes that she’s got what it takes to
join the prestigious air squadron, and least of all
her captain, Zingrato. He relishes in humiliating
her in the presence of the other aspirants and
forces her to consider running away from it all.
Meanwhile, Jaron daydreams of freedom as
he slaves away in the underground smithy of the
Golgutu prison camp. He still wants to find Laguna’s
Eye and use the jewel to buy his brother’s freedom,
but most of all, he longs to be reunited with Arrow.
As the days go by, Jaron’s hope starts to dwindle,
but when a new fellow prisoner takes an interest
in his powers as a thought whisperer, he gets
a unique chance to make a daring escape.
