I heard mixed things about this book before I started and I think my own opinion ended up being somewhere in the middle. I like the concept of this story. It used a lot of tropes and elements I really enjoy. And who wouldn’t love the idea of a nonbinary merperson? My opinion about the characters is mixed. They are pretty dramatic. A lot of conflicts happen and most of them get resolved within minutes. I actually didn‘t mind that because it avoided unnecessary long drama. The dramatics and attitudes of the main characters, especially Crest, got annoying at times though. I loved the plus size and nonbinary representation! I did notice that I have a hard time liking hardcore movie nerd characters. I‘ve read other characters who had a similar obsession like Sean before and I never really get it, so those elements always leave me a little bored or even annoyed. The book definitely did some interesting character arc things. I was also very intrigued by the world building. Two big plus points for me. Overall I‘d call this an okay book.
