A poor clergyman is accused of stealing a check he cannot account for, and neither he nor the diocese can settle it. The last of the Barsetshire novels, and Trollope thought Mr Crawley the best character he ever made; he killed Mrs Proudie in it because he overheard two men at his club complaining she went on too long.
