Cambridge lectures on Dickens, Trollope, Thackeray and their contemporaries by the professor who edited the Oxford Book of English Verse. Quiller-Couch wrote them to be read aloud, and the talk is still in the prose. This edition is bound with a gallery of 60 plates of painting, among them portraits by John Everett Millais, George Harvey and Francis Grant, dating from 1840 to 1897.
