De første arkæologiske rekognosceringer og udgravninger i staten Qatar blev udført af Moesgaard Museum, Danmark, i 1956-1974. Et bind om stenalderpladserne blev udgivet af JAS i 1967, og den nærværende publikation omfatter de resterende undersøgelser. Af særlig interesse er nogle grave med jernsværd og -pile, samt dromedarer og en samtidig boplads med keramik, der viser hen til tætte forbindelser til Bahrain og den østlige provins i Saudiarabien. De første udgravninger af den tidligislamiske plads Murwab bliver præsenteret, og bogen afsluttes med et komplet katalog over helleristningerne fra Jebel Jusasiyah.
