Morden på Rue Morgue en novell av Edgar Allan Poe, som ofta betraktas som den första moderna detektivberättelsen. Den publicerades första gången 1841 i tidskriften Graham's Magazine. Novellen ingår även i samlingen Den svarta katten och andra noveller.

EDGAR ALLAN POE föddes i Boston 1809. Efter korta försök inom universitetsvärlden och militären blev han biträdande redaktör för Southern Literary Messenger i Richmond och började verka som litteraturkritiker och författare. Romanen Arthur Gordon Pyms äventyr från 1838 mötte ingen större uppskattning; det var i novellerna som hans sällsamma senromantiska stil verkligen kom till sin rätt. Han avled i Baltimore år 1849.
