The Patanjali Sutra states its aim,
To still the mind's distracting flame.
When mental waves no longer rise,
The Seer within the Self then lies.
The practice calls for focused zeal,
With discipline that helps us heal.
The eight main limbs must be observed,
As true foundation is preserved.
The Yamas define the moral plea,
To live with truth and charity.
Then Niyamas aid the inner light,
For study, service, and pure sight.
With posture firm and breath controlled,
The higher steps begin to unfold.
Concentration finds its peak,
When perfect union then we seek.
